Shamokin 65, Hanover Area 14

Shamokin 65, Hanover Area 14 at Kemp Memorial Stadium. The Indians are 8-0. Hanover Area is 1-7.

Marc Persing wanted a fast start after several slow ones, and the Indians were up 26-0 in the first nine minutes. Senior Ryan Bickert scored on a 58-yard run the first time he touched the ball, then on a 60-yard punt return the next time. In between, Logan Steele returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown. A safety and Colin Steinhart's 28-yard field goal made it 26-0 with 3:01 left in the first. "The kids did what we asked them to do," Persing said. "We wanted them to come out dialed in and they did just that."

Trey Taylor scored on a 30-yard run in the opening minute of the second quarter. Steele added a 4-yard touchdown run after a score was called back, and it was 40-0 with 3:06 left in the half. Angel Tejada answered for Hanover Area with an 89-yard kickoff return. Steele then hit junior Leland O'Connell for a 4-yard touchdown pass, and Shamokin led 47-7 at the break. The mercy rule ran the clock the rest of the way. Hawkeye quarterback Logan Richardson scored on an 11-yard run for Hanover Area's second touchdown.
