District IV lists Shamokin as the Class 3A champion for both the 1995-96 and 1996-97 school years. The 1995 page has the Coal Bucket win, 15-0 over Mount Carmel, and a PIAA Class AAA quarterfinal loss to Manheim Central, 38-14. Northumberland County's biography of Commissioner Samuel J. Schiccatano says he grew up in the Shamokin and Coal Township area, graduated from Shamokin Area in 1972, and played football at Lycoming College, where he earned a degree in sociology and elementary education in 1976. It says he taught at Shamokin Area for 36 years, was PSEA teachers-union president for six years and vice president for one year, and that a coaching career of the same length included head coach at Shamokin Area and Milton and assistant coach at Shamokin, Shikellamy, and Lourdes. He also coached basketball and track at Shamokin. PA Football News prints the 1992-1999 head coach as Sam Schicchitano. The Daily Item's 2018 story on Ed Binkoski's visit identifies the assistant coach who invited him as a county commissioner.

The Times Leader's Nov. 27, 1993 preview of the Eastern Conference Class AAA title game calls him a first-year coach, with Shamokin 11-1 going into that game at Berwick. PA Football News lists him for 1992 and lists the finished 1993 season as 10-2. The 11-1 figure is the paper's record entering the game. The county biography is the college career, and that graduate line is on the alumni page.
