Shamokin football in the 1980s

Joe Gubernot's last two lines on PA Football News are 7-4-1 and league 2-2 in 1980, and 6-6 and league 0-3 in 1981. Bob Chesney is the 1982 line, 1-9 and 0-3. Jack Murdock is 1983 through 1985: 0-11 and league 0-3 in 1983, then 5-5 in both 1984 and 1985, with no league record printed.

Dave Zielinskie starts in 1986 at 1-10, then 5-6, 6-5, and 9-3 in 1989. The 1985 season has its own page. Mount Carmel's archive has Shamokin 21, Mount Carmel 0 on Sept. 20, and the Coal Bucket story quotes Rob Oshinskie on that win. The same story says Shamokin's best run in the series was 8-3 dating to 1985, before Mount Carmel's long streak. District IV lists Shamokin as the Class 3A champion for 1989-90. A score from that championship game was not found, so 1989 stays in this table. The archive has the Sept. 25, 1989 meeting as Mount Carmel 20, Shamokin 9. EasternPAFootball's 1989 championship games are Berwick, Pottsville, Dunmore, and Mount Carmel, not Shamokin.
