Head coach Ed Binkoski. First Shamokin Area season
The Daily Item, covering Ed Binkoski's 2018 visit to the Shamokin Area team, said he led the Indians' first season to 10-1 in 1965, and that the one loss was to Shikellamy. The story does not print that score.
PA Football News lists the same 10-1, a league record of 7-1, and Binkoski as head coach. The District IV coaches hall of fame says he had been Coal Township's head coach from 1961 to 1964, then coached the joint program.
The Daily Item says Shamokin and Coal Township consolidated in 1965, took Coal Township's purple and white, and dropped the Greyhounds and Purple Demons. PA Football News dates the merger to 1964.
